The Sail Portsmouth Board of Directors is welcoming three new members and saying goodbye to one long-standing board member.  In March, William (Bill) Mathers, Sara Cassinelli, and Geoff Youngclaus, CPA joined the Sail Portsmouth Board of Directors.

William (Bill) Mathers is the Founder and President of Pacific Sea Resources, which was established to undertake the archaeological recovery and documentation of historic shipwrecks.

Sara Cassinelli is the Owner of Cass & Company, the premier nanny, domestic and household staffing agency in New England. Along with Sail Portsmouth, she also volunteers with End 68 Hours of Hunger Seacoast.

Geoff Youngclaus, CPA is the CPA-Managing Partner of Youngclaus and Company, PLLC. He has taken on the role of Treasurer of the Board of Directors for Sail Portsmouth.

At the same time, Phil von Hemert, Board Chair stepped off the board after 10 years of service. Phil began his involvement with the organization in 2014 as a “Ship Chaser” to identify and contract ships for the Sail Portsmouth Tall Ship Event. He then joined the Sail Portsmouth Board of Directors in 2017.

Robin Comstock, Sail Portsmouth Board Member stated, “On behalf of the Board of Directors, our volunteers and the community we serve, know that we are profoundly grateful to Phil for his years of service to Sail Portsmouth. Under Phil’s leadership we grew the historic tall ship event, expanded the Sea Challenge, and broadened the Board of Directors serving the program, as touch stones to the larger community and region. Phil’s positive impact will never be forgotten and always will be highly valued.”

Phil von Hemert, when asked about his tenure and success, remarked, “Any success I’ve had at Sail Portsmouth has been largely due to many experienced collaborators and sage mentors like Chad Chadwick, our former Board Chair, like Geno Marconi, New Hampshire Port Authority Director, and like a multitude of passionate Sail Portsmouth board members. They deserve the credit and thanks.”

We are always looking to add new members to the Board of Directors. We are currently looking for specific skillsets, including marketing, event planning, and fundraising and development.
