SAIL PORTSMOUTH’S SEA CHALLENGE PROGRAM BENEFITS

Bruce Addison and Phil von Hemert accept a very generous check from Marcye Philbrook, Board President, The Fabulous Find

This week, the upscale resale shop, The Fabulous Find, Kittery, presented Sail Portsmouth with a check for more than $14,000. The funds will go directly into the Sea Challenge Scholarship Fund. Sea Challenge sends high school youths to sea for one-week voyages on tall ships for an experiential education experience. Phil von Hemert, Board Chair stated, “About 85% of the kids that participate each year come from underserved families and marginalized communities. They could not afford go without financial aid. We are actively recruiting students for this summer’s trip and this gift will help tremendously.”

The Fabulous Find is a truly fabulous and inspirational organization. They are committed to giving away all their earnings. Each month, they designate two or three area nonprofits who receive that month’s split of the store’s net proceeds. They are successful because they keep operating costs at a minimum while working hard to bring in previously owned but high-quality clothing, household goods and furniture. Their friendly volunteers staff the store at 139 State Road (Route 1), Kittery, Maine. If you haven’t shopped there or donated unwanted belongings yet, please give it a try. You’ll be doing a lot of local charitable organizations – and yourself, a big favor.
