Tall Ship Sails

Sail aboard a tall ship during Sail Portsmouth - All 2022 trips were SOLD OUT well in advance. Stay tuned for an announcement about the 2023 event.

If you’ve ever enjoyed or even imagined the thrill of sailing the high seas, Sail Portsmouth can help make it happen.

Every summer, often during the Sail Portsmouth maritime festival, we provide sailing trips on tall ships.

During this summer’s event, the topsail schooner Lynx an authentic, Maine-built replica of an original 1812 era privateer provided the sails. Their trips included a 3-hour Parade of Sail, multiple 2- hour roundtrip cruises along the nearby coast, and a one-way voyage from New Castle to Gloucester.

Passengers come aboard for all kinds of reasons. Many just enjoy a day on the Atlantic Ocean. Others are motivated by a desire to learn about our maritime history in a real-time setting. Still others like the idea of sharing the experience with a date or grandchildren. Whatever the inspiration, passengers are welcome to help the crew with various tasks like raising, dropping and furling the sails or just relaxing and watching the coastline drift by.

Notice:

  1. Passengers must be ambulatory, agile, and at least 6 years old.
  2. We suggest you bring a picnic lunch and as well as plenty of water to stay hydrated.
  3. Check the weather before you leave to see if warmer clothing or rain gear would be appropriate. It is usually colder on the water.
